Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island known as West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of communities. People who have never heard of it often confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often mentioned, but her brief time in the city was not. Brugel grew to be an aspiring young lady in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. The first goal she had was to be a dancer but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. When I surpassed any male partner then I slowed down. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's case it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school who led her in the right direction. The teacher was the one who encouraged her to try out as Anne in their annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been involved in more than 60 shows, big and small. Most notable was the time she was cast as Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and was only seen at times.
