Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitarist and musician. She was the very first and youngest female to win a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She is the student of Ravi Shankar and is also his daughter. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the early years of her life traveling between London as well as New Delhi. The first time she performed was on stage in New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. After moving to Encinitas, CA in 1999 she received an honorary high school certificate. Anouskha's career as a musician and performer is impressive, despite her youth. She has been performing with her father on stage for many years. The singer has released Anourag her debut album on her own in 1998. It was nominated for a Grammy Award. Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage work she has done is broad as she's appeared in all of the world's major venues. Her career extends beyond the realm of music. In 2002, she released the book Bapi The Love of My Live this is a picture-based biography, which is a honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. In 2003, she was a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's professional career is continuing to develop and we can expect to see a variety of things from her in the years to follow. Anoushka shankar is an English born singer who travelled her early years split between London, Delhi and California. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday Anoushka first made an appearance performing the sitar in front of an audience at the age of four, following her nine year old father. Alongside her father, he toured the world Anoushka was able to accumulate a variety of experiences appearing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens. She performed at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and making recordings with George Harrison. She was the youngest woman to receive the House of Commons Shield, awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her musical talent and artistic ability within performing in the Asian Arts.
